The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, former Union Minister, and MP from Sirsa Kumari Selja said that the drug problem in our neighboring state is even worse than in Haryana. Fatehabad shares its border with Punjab, and therefore, more serious efforts are needed in Fatehabad district to combat drugs. Kumari Selja was addressing officials while presiding over the meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) at the District Council Hall located at the mini-secretariat.

The meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala, Tohana MLA Paramveer Singh, Ratia MLA Jarnail Singh, Fatehabad MLA Balwan Singh Daulatpuria, Fatehabad Deputy Commissioner Mandeep Kaur, Superintendent of Police Siddhant Jain, ADC Anurag Dhalia, DMC Sanjay Bishnoi, Arvind Sharma, Lal Bahadur Khowal, Rajesh Chadiwal, and other senior officials of Fatehabad district. Congress leaders Arvind Sharma and Jaipal Singh Lali were also present.

Upon MP Kumari Selja’s arrival at the mini-secretariat, she was welcomed with a bouquet by Deputy Commissioner Mandeep Kaur, while Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala was welcomed by DMC Sanjay Bishnoi with a bouquet. While addressing the meeting, MP Kumari Selja questioned Superintendent of Police Siddhant Jain about the serious issues of crime and drugs in Fatehabad district. She asked what campaigns the police are running against drugs and what efforts are being made to control crime. SP Siddhant Jain responded that the district police are on high alert regarding drugs and are making every effort to dismantle drug trafficking networks. He said the police are trying their best to prevent crimes and have been successful in arresting criminals after crimes occur. Kumari Selja said that the neighboring state has a worse drug problem than Haryana and, since Fatehabad borders Punjab, the police must intensify their efforts. She also inquired about healthcare services in Fatehabad. Deputy Civil Surgeon (Dental), Dr. Sharad Tuli, informed the meeting that the government had issued appointment orders for 83 doctors in the district, out of which 15 have joined. Tohana MLA Paramveer Singh mentioned that even light rainfall leads to waterlogging in Tohana city, and he called for strengthening the drainage system. Kumari Selja directed officials to resolve the serious problem of waterlogging in the Fatehabad district. She also asked for an update on the Hisar-Fatehabad-Sirsa railway line, to which officials replied that the district administration had no current information on the matter. In the DISHA meeting, MP Kumari Selja criticize the functioning of the Fatehabad Municipal Council, saying the city’s sanitation system is in a poor state. A tender worth ₹2 crore was issued for the repair of an old grill on a city divider that had previously raised visibility and accident concerns seven years ago. She noted that instead of solving the problem during the new construction, it was only worsened. Municipal officials present could not provide satisfactory answers to her concerns. MLAs Balwan Singh Daulatpuria and Jarnail Singh also raised various issues and development plans for their respective areas and asked for reports on the resolution of issues raised in previous meetings.

MP Kumari Selja instructed the officials to ensure that no obstacles should arise in development work and that any problems be resolved immediately. She also stressed the need to expedite the remaining construction work of the Tohana bus stand. She called for an investigation into allegations of substandard material being used in the construction. Kumari Selja said that a park named Papiya Park, developed during the Congress regime in the heart of Fatehabad, is now in a very poor state after 10 years. It is the only park in the city and lacks basic amenities, which needs urgent attention. Kumari Selja criticized the encroachments on green belts in Fatehabad under the protection of municipal officials, saying the green belts are disappearing and turning into garbage dumps, with trash being removed only after months.All police, administrative, and departmental officials of the district were present at the meeting.
